Hi…we are Brenda and Rick Tappan! Almost 17 years ago, a metro ride changed both of our lives, and we have been partners in crime ever since!

A native of central New York, Brenda moved to Maryland for a new job. A prior DC Firefighter/Medic, Rick was born and raised locally in DC. Although raised in different styles — country vs. city — the two quickly developed a style that fit nicely together. Being raised by a mother who was a chef, Rick had a natural inclination toward not just cooking but creating in the kitchen. This complimented Brenda’s love of cooking and especially baking. As time went by, Rick began to dabble in sausage making and charcuterie and Brenda began to hone her gardening and canning skills.

In addition to the kitchen, both Brenda and Rick enjoy many other activities such as sewing, knitting, raising bees, spending time with and training their dogs, and many other activities. While they both have their own interests, they love to work together to assist and encourage each other.

This blog/podcast/site is important to both Brenda and Rick in their quest to share not only what they have learned from others but also to encourage others to join in and share their knowledge and skills. It is a way to create a community of support and learning.
